Wick Fowler’s 2-Alarm Chili

I got this 36 years ago, when Wick Fowler was on "Good Morning, Houston". He was making his chili on the show and gave out the recipe on the air. AWESOME!!!
  • ½ cups chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1-tablespoon red pepper
  • 1T & 1t minced dry onion
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 ½ t Comino
  • 1 ½ t oregano
  • 2 T masa flour
  • One clove garlic
  • 1-8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 2 cans water
  1. Sear 2 lbs of coarse ground beef until grayish color. Add tomato sauce, 2 cans of water & all ingredients except the masa flour. Cover kettle and let simmer for 1 hour & 15 minutes, until the meat is tender. Skim of the grease. Mix flour with warm water into a thick but flowing mixture. Stir into the chili to “tighten” & add flavor to the chili. Let simmer another 15-20 minutes. Check taste for flavor & tenderness. Serve.


Jimmy Dean's Country Breakfast Pie

  • 1 pkg. Jimmy Dean Sausage
  • 9" pie shell baked
  • 1½ c grated Swiss cheese
  • ¼ c chopped green bell pepper
  • ¼ c chopped red bell pepper
  • 2 tbsp chopped onion
  • 4 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 c light cream
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Cook sausage until done. Crumble and drain. Scramble eggs well in large bowl. Add cream and mix well. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Pour into prepared pie shell. Bake at 375°F for 40 to 45 minutes. Cool on rack for 10 minutes. Yields 6 to 8 servings. ENJOY!


Kitty's Crazy Banana Bread

Awesomely Good! Remember you want extremely ripe bananas.
  • 2 c white flour or 1¾ whole wheat flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ baking soda
  • ½ salt
  • ⅓ c butter
  • ⅔ c honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c mashed bananas (3-4 whole bananas)
  1. Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda & salt together and set aside for later. Cream the butter, honey and vanilla together well. Beat the eggs and mashed bananas together. Now alternately add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture. You may add pecans if desired. Place in a greased loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 1 hour. If making muffins bake for 25 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes when remove from oven before cutting and eating.


Margaret's Apple Strudel

  • 3 ¼ cups flour
  • 1-cup lukewarm water
  • 2 T butter
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ t. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 8 apples
  • lemon juice
  • sugar & cinnamon
  • chopped pecans
  • raisins
  • coconut
  • Maraschino cherries
  1. Place flour in large bowl. Add water, butter, sugar, salt & egg. Mix until all flour is blended in well. Place dough on floured board & knead until flexible. Divide into thirds. Place each in small greased bowl & cover with a damp cloth. Let rest in warm place.
  2. Core apples & slice ½ inch thick. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Roll out dough with pin as thin as possible & then stretch dough by placing hands under it & stretching towards you, starting in the middle. Butter the whole sheet of dough. Sprinkle apples, pecans, raisins, coconut, cherries, brown sugar & cinnamon. Roll up in jellyroll fashion. Butter roll before baking. Sprinkle with sugar & cinnamon mixture.
  3. Place on greased pan bakes 375° for 45 minutes.



Evelyn's Awesome Zucchini Bread

  • 2c whole wheat flour
  • 1c white flour
  • 1T salt
  • 1Tsoda
  • 3T cinnamon
  • 1T nutmeg
  • 1T baking powder
  • 2 c peeled & grated zucchini
  1. Beat 3 eggs until creamy. Add 1c oil, 2c sugar, 2T vanilla, 2c peeled & grated zucchini, ¼ c pecans. Mix all together & bake at 325°F for one hour. Makes two large loaves.
